Clinical Studies about Light Therapy Benefits
Acne Studies
Study 1 Summary:
30 patients with mild to moderate acne
Treated acne with blue light LED device
Outcome:
76% had positive response to treatment
The study concluded that “home use of blue light LED therapy significantly improves the outcome of mild to moderate inflammatory acne lesions.” (Gold, M.H. et al)
Study 2 Summary:
60 patients with mild to moderate acne
Included only patients who did respond well to previous acne treaments
Blue light therapy administered
Outcome:
92% of participants saw improvement
Study 3 Summary:
124 patients with mild to moderate acne
Compared effect of 4% topical benzoyl peroxide (BPO) to blue light therapy
Outcome:
76% average improvement with blue light therapy as compared to a 60% average improvement for 4% benzoyl peroxide.
The scientist concluded, “blue light is a more effective and safe therapy for mild to moderate acne patients as compared to 4% benzoyl peroxide.” (Cheema, A.N et al.)
Wrinkle Studies
Study 1 Summary:
90 patients were treated with orange (590 nm) LED relight therapy
Outcome:
The study stated “90% of subjects had smoother texture, reduction of peri-orbital rhytids, and reduction of erythema and pigmentation.” (Weiss, R. et. al)
Rhytids is the medical term for wrinkles. Erythema is redness of the skin.
Study 2 Summary:
31 subjects with facial wrinkles received nine LED light therapy treatments
Outcome:
According to the study, “81% of subjects reported a significant improvement in periorbital wrinkles on completion of follow-up.” (Russell et al.)
Study 3 Summary:
136 subjects participated in this study
Participants were divided in groups to compare Energizing Light
Therapy (near infrared light therapy) and LED Red Light therapy Treatments
Outcome:
100% of participants had significant improvement in skin complexion, skin feeling, skin roughness, collagen density, and wrinkles
No significant difference between the Energized Light Therapy group and the Red LED Light Therapy group

Included 10 hair follicle samples from patient without infection, alopecia, or scalp disorders

Outcome:
Samples treated with red light LED grew faster and longer
Study concluded that red light therapy promotes hair growth
Study 2 Summary:
41 male patients with androgenetic alopecia participated in this study
Outcome:
35% increase in hair growth
Study 3 Summary:
2 male patients with androgenetic alopecia who reported years of attempting to treat hair loss

Both patients saw significant hair growth

How Long Does It Take to Work?
